In the Valve Index set I was delighted not only with goggles, but controllers. They save Half-Life: Alyx a bit

I checked the Valve Index virtual reality kit in practice. Goggles like goggles, but Valve Knuckles controllers for VR games are a nomen omen of a gamechanger.

It is true that only 2 percent. Steam users use virtual reality goggles, and the macOS version does not support them anymore, but PC VR is still alive. Oculus has been operating in this small market for years, today it belongs to Facebook and HTC, i.e. the Valve ground floor responsible for the foundations of SteamVR.

I myself use the console PSVR privately and the Oculus Questa alone, which, when connected to a PC, allowed me to start Half-Life: Alyx. I also rented HTC Vive Cosmos in the regular and Elite versions for testing to check the new title on this equipment. Now it's time for the next set.

Valve Index - goggles straight from the developers of SteamVR

The company responsible for the largest store with digital copies of games for personal computers for years developed SteamVR in cooperation with HTC, but quietly worked on its own goggles. They were called Valve Index, and for tracking they use satellites as in the first pair of HTC and Oculus goggles.

The Steam Creator Set went on sale in June 2019, and although it suffers from typical childhood problems, it still enjoys great recognition among VR enthusiasts. Currently, Valve goggles can't even be bought due to the lack of new deliveries, but I recently borrowed them from a friend.

And goggles like goggles, but these controllers ...

I had several different VR sets on my head, and I have my own two at home, so when it comes to the headset itself, it came without surprises. It is true that the image on the LCD screens with a resolution of 1440 by 1600 per eye when refreshing at 144 Hz looks bomb-like, but it does not cause my jaw to drop. Valve Knuckles!

It was the controllers sold in the set from the Valve Index that amazed me because they let you capture virtual objects. You do not need to hold them all the time because of the band that is attached to your hand. You can loosen the grip and the games detect each finger being pinched individually.

Valve Knuckles wiped out the somewhat bad impression that Half-Life: Alyx made on me.

After playing the new Valve game, which was supposed to be such a creme de la creme of virtual reality, I was ... disappointed. I know I'm in a minority, but I can't say that it impresses something when it doesn't . Half-Life: Alyx is troubled by many problems, but - as I expected - some have solved the change of equipment.

The creators of the game decided that they will allow you to run Half-Life: Alyx on goggles of various companies - the player base with their own VR sets is tiny, so there is no need to further break it up - but unfortunately you feel that the game was designed with Valve equipment in mind. Support from other manufacturers' equipment has been added to the attachment.

Half-Life: Alyx on the Valve Index works much better thanks to Knuckles than on HTC and Oculus goggles.

Only after switching to Valve goggles could I grab virtual objects with real fingers. Throwing them was much more natural when I had to let go of Knuckles at the right time, and not just take my finger off the trigger, as is the case in other controllers. It's a higher level of immersion.

Storing ammunition in the backpack worked much better - in other sets it drove me crazy, and it worked as it should - probably thanks to the support of the Valve Lighthouse satellites. Developers give players the option of moving the ammunition storage box in Half-Life: Alyx from behind the belt.

This is where the ammunition in Boneworks is hidden , which is another game I tested on the Valve Index.

Half-Life: Alyx is the loudest VR title, but I had a better time playing Stress Level Zero. Boneworks throws players straight into the deep water - the avatar begins to escape from the research complex, where he must solve logical puzzles and fight using various weapons - flammable and more.

Boneworks is not an ideal game, and for longer sessions it causes nausea - the developers themselves advise not to approach people who have not yet eaten teeth on VR games - but despite this I enjoyed playing it great. I also understood that Valve instead of Half-Life: Alyx should create ... Portal VR.

I know that transferring a teleporter game to goggles would be a challenge, but I'm convinced it's feasible. The experience of Stress Level Zero at Boneworks, Valve Index goggles and Knuckles controllers would be such a solid foundation of the Portal in virtual reality. Who do I know? Maybe I'll ever see him ...
