HTC: As expected, revenue fell in April
HTC reports another month of declining sales. This was particularly noticeable in April, when the global corona pandemic significantly weakened the demand for smartphones.
As of the latest financial report , HTC had sales of only NT $ 297 million ($ 9.91 million) in April 2020. That's a worrying 31.25 percent less than the NT $ 432 million ($ 14.41 million) reported in March, and even 49.8 percent less than the twelve months ago.
Unfortunately, all of this is also a historic low for the Taiwan-based company that was one of the largest smartphone manufacturers in the world less than a decade ago.
The company is expected to continue driving its VR business. It recently announced a free alternative to the Zoom conference call app for its VR customers, a segment that has seen exponential growth since countries were closed.
As for its smartphone business, recent leaks have revealed that the company is working on a new mid-range smartphone called the HTC Desire 20 Pro . This should be preceded by a new 5G flagship in the second half of the year, which will be HTC's first premium smartphone in over two years.
Many analysts assume that the company will not experience growth until the 5G device is on the market.
