The Office of Electronic Communications summarizes the last years of its activity. The number of numbers transferred by Poles and the approvals issued for 5G tests in Poland is impressive.

Unexpectedly, the President of UKE was forced to leave his position . On this occasion, the unit he managed prepared a document entitled Summary of the Strategy of the President of UKE 2017-2021, which summarizes the last years of activity and plans to date.

UKE and consumer rights protection

The first chapter is devoted to a summary of actions taken to defend consumers in an unequal fight with operators and other behemoths. The tests were carried out in four bands: 2100 MHz, 3.5 GHz, 26 GHz and 28 GHz. As many as 1700 permits were issued for the use of 5G radio equipment in the 1800 MHz, 2.1 GHz and 2.6 GHz bands, and Plus with its 5G has already started . In addition, frequencies in the area of ​​over 1,000 communes were released, and UKE's administrative proceedings resulted in:

• 114 reservations for frequencies in the 3.6 GHz band were withdrawn;
• 14 revocation decisions were issued

• the area of ​​validity has been reduced for 15 reservations.

Thanks to these activities, the Office of Electronic Communications could announce an auction for frequency reservations in the 3.6 GHz band , which gave a chance to allocate the 320 MHz band for telecoms for the needs of the 5th generation network later this year. However, as we already know, this did not happen, because the auction was canceled because of the coronavirus , and the future of 5G in Poland is questionable .

5G is, however, only one of many areas that UKE has recently dealt with.

In addition, framework contracts for access to cable ducts were looked at and 700 MHz frequencies were made available for broadband systems. This required international arrangements with 11 countries and resulted in the need to switch from digital terrestrial TV encoding from the DVB-T / MPEG4 standard to DVB-T2 / HEVC .
