5G hasn t started well yet, and it s already a mess. What is the difference between 5Ge and 5G and 5G +?

The American telecommunications giant AT&T gives up the "5G E" label, which misled customers. Meanwhile, Google announces the introduction of this naming for Android 11.

The 5G network itself arouses powerful emotions, but operators add fuel to the fire. Markings appear that mislead users. Thus, divisions are created even among 5G network enthusiasts.

The 5G network is available in Poland only recently, although it may seem different.

Plus is the first operator to launch a publicly available 5G network in Poland . The network was launched in May this year, literally a dozen or so days ago. Currently, it is available to a few, because it works only in seven cities, and for this requires the use of equipment that supports 5G connectivity. 5G smartphones and routers are still rare on the market, but this will change over time.

The 5G network requires modernization of the current infrastructure, and further expansion, because the masts will have to stand denser. This is another factor that makes the path to the spread of the 5G standard a long way.

Despite this, there is no doubt that 5G technology is the future, and the first big step towards popularizing this network has already been made. However, many users believe that 5G existed in Poland before.

Operators tempt with the slogans of 5G Ready and 5Ge. Just what does that actually mean?

Some time ago, the campaign of Play operator, which promoted its solution called "5G Ready", was widely heard. It was a de facto LTE-A network that was prepared for the future of 5G technology in the future. This standard therefore had nothing to do with the presence of the 5G network.

"5G Ready" is not the only entry that could mislead customers. We recently learned that the upcoming Android 11 will use the name "5G E", which also has little to do with the actual 5G standard. The "E" will be given LTE networks that will use the aggregation of several different bands.

Android 11 will use up to five determinations for two generations of networks. They are: LTE, LTE +, 5G E, 5G and 5G +. In fact, the difference between LTE + and 5G E will be virtually unnoticeable.

Thus, the story comes full circle. In 2010, we also witnessed bending of names, when 3G HSPA + networks were referred to as "4G", obviously very exaggerated.

There is no consent for "5G E" in the United States.

The designation "5G E" began to appear already at the end of last year, initially in the American AT&T network. This was widely heard because the operator thus defined the existing 4G network. In this case the note "E" meant "Evolution".

AT&T will abandon the use of the name "5G E" . This decision was made due to pressure from the Better Business Bureau organization monitoring the advertising market. The organization associates 106 entities in the United States and Canada. According to the Better Business Bureau, AT&T misleads its customers. The operator does not agree with this opinion, but nevertheless decides to abandon the use of such names.

Since the operator is bending, why does Google want to support misinformation?

In light of recent events related to AT&T, Google's decision to introduce the "5G E" designation to Android 11 looks extremely unfortunate. There are only two weeks left to the premiere of the new system, but it will reach users' smartphones only in the third quarter of 2020. I hope that by that time Google will withdraw from the naming, which misleads customers.

The 5G network has enough of its own problems. On one hand, we have pseudoscientific environments that are afraid of new technologies. On the other hand, we have technical obstacles and challenges. No one needs to add this misleading naming.
