Disgusting. Cyber ââcriminals prey on our fear of coronavirus
Any form of thief is unacceptable. Using the global unrest caused by coronavirus to facilitate this theft is a special kind of meanness. And, according to Orange Polska data, these forms of attacks are becoming increasingly popular.
Only in March, almost 1.8 thousand were added to the CyberTarczy Orange Polska system (the operator's services designed to protect customers at the network infrastructure level). new phishing domains. A small percentage - dozens of pieces - however, had something special. All phishing attacks are an attempt to obtain phishing authorization data from us (over 40% from the Orange database, specifically data from Internet banks). However, these several dozen pieces preyed on our fear of an epidemic .
I do not know how morally corrupt a person must be to offer, for material gain, allegedly useful information on the protection of our and our loved ones' health - and in fact to install malicious software on our device that steals our confidential data. Horror. But this is not the end.
Cyber Shield Orange last year protected customers from phishing attacks shocking 11.5 million times.
Another 2.5 million times blocked the effect of prowling malware. The published CERT Orange Polska Report also shows that phishing attacks via SMS are growing in popularity. Messages about the alleged underpayment for the service prompt you to click quickly on the attached link to the counterfeit website with online payments. Unfortunately, up to 80 percent recipients of such messages click on the link within 15 minutes of receiving it.
DDoS attacks are still common (21% of attacks). The five largest banks that entrusted security to the Orange Security Operations Center received within the year from 50 to almost 90 alerts indicating a DDoS attack.
In the fixed-line network, the most common type of malware of the past year was the Emotet Trojan, which over the years has been equipped with further dangerous capabilities, including sending spam, stealing data or downloading additional malware to devices. In the mobile network, the most dangerous was definitely the Cerberus banker, and the most active was HiddenAd, attacking Android devices and spreading via unverified applications from the GooglePlay store.
Threats in the mobile network already constitute over 40 percent. whole.
Compared to last year, their number has almost doubled. The vast majority still apply to Android devices, but the number of threats on iOS and iPadOS has seen a 70% increase. Unfortunately, their number will clearly increase. Cyber criminals will stop at nothing - even the biggest drama, as evidenced by the growing number of attacks using coronavirus epidemics.
It is already said that the next target of the attack will be Internet of Things devices (smart home appliances and electronics, smart home and similar). Experts also predict that in the near future we may be using the deepfake technique for fraud and scams on a massive scale. Unfortunately, it is also expected that all current trends will deepen. Let's be careful, use branded and up-to-date software and use secure, well-protected networks.
