Delaying the release of Cyberpunk 2077 meant that in Poland the game developed by CD Projekt RED is released not by CDP, but by Cenega. Its original distributor has just declared bankruptcy.

It's a sad day for the Polish video game industry. The company, referred to as a veteran of that market, which was supposed to release Cyberpunk 2077 in Poland, winds its sails after a quarter spent in agony. Although its representatives argued that this would not happen, today - according to Puls Biznesu - there was information about the bankruptcy filing by CDP owners.

It should of course be remembered that CDP.pl , CD Projekt RED and CDP are three different companies.

CDP.pl is an online store belonging to Merlin Commerce, and in CD Projekt RED there are developers responsible for the iconic Witcher. They are still working hard on Cyberpunk 2077 and convince them that the game will come on time. In turn, CDP is a publisher who came out of the CD Projekt group and became a distributor of games created by various studios - including REDs.

Until recently, CDP had in its portfolio the right to distribute on our market both the series of video games about Geralt and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077. Unfortunately, this last contract was probably the nail in the publisher's coffin. Problems began when CD Projekt RED announced the release date of its long-awaited release from April to September.

It can be presumed that it was because of the slide that Cyberpunk 2077 made, that a wave of layoffs swept through CDP in January.

The publisher apparently put everything on one card, and the need to print new promotional materials and postponing earnings for several months could prove to be fraught with consequences. However, Cenega came here on a white horse, which took over the rights to distribute the new CD Projekt RED game in Poland.

This was not a surprise, because it was this company, associated with the Bandai-Namco concern, that had already previously secured the rights to Cyberpunk 2077 in many other countries. The premiere of the Polish game is not threatened, however, as CD Projekt RED emphasizes at every turn - now also.

All orders placed will be processed. Cenega will continue to collect orders for the standard version of the game in sales networks and online stores. However, pre-order orders that have been placed for the Collector's Edition of the game will be processed directly by CD PROJEKT RED. - explains Radek Adam Grabowski, Lead PR Manager from CD Projekt RED

All pre-orders will be processed - either by the new distributor or directly by CD Projekt RED. Cenega will certainly be pleased with this turn of events, but CDP has been after losing its rights to the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077 series on ice. The company believed to the very end that it would be able to rebuild its former position, but now we know that it failed.

The bankruptcy petition rather determines the future of CDP, or rather its absence. The company certainly did not help the situation caused by the ongoing pandemic, but we will never know again whether it was the coronavirus that killed the oldest game publisher in Poland, or whether it would be finished off by the so-called comorbid disease. There is no doubt, however, that an era has ended today - and many older players will miss eXtra Classic ...
