I fired him something else to show on my computer, but the whole thing was in such a way that I prayed that he would go away and he would pray that I would go away. From pure courtesy we dragged the whole show.

His face was stony all the time, his thoughts impenetrable, his neck tie pulled up so much that he even hurt me. And suddenly, somewhere in the flood of launchpad icons, he spotted Football Manager - probably - 2018. "Oh, hehe, tonight I'm playing the Champions League final with my Leeds." No other man.

A regular customer, to this day, amused we even go back to that meeting, which started very badly and ended with an hour and a half discussion about the concept of the game in the 4-6-0 setting, the superiority of the game with wings over tics - such as and above all the talents they managed we invented in the game (I plucked the command of Pietro Pellegrie, with whom we achieved wonderful things ).

It is possible that virtual managers are in the government today, in real sports clubs, in the authorities of state companies, they are just operating on the operating table or doing another very serious, completely unrelated to football. But they know the taste of the goal lost in the 90th minute of the match or series of defeats, which has nothing to do with logic and is increasingly threatening to look into our eyes. Originally published abroad in 2012, translated and enriched by journalist Leszek Milewski, it finally went on sale in Poland. Hence, apart from the chapters describing the history of the game, the circumstances of its creation or various flavors (do you know that Everton bought the base from Sports Interactive scouting?), We can also read sentimental journeys to the past by the biggest names of the series and memories of players, including those from Poland.

This is a very interesting reading, although its extremely nostalgic, sentimental character makes it rather created for a very specific group of recipients. For example, if you gave a book to a big fan of FC Barcelona, ​​who, however, shun computer games, this one - poor thing - could get lost in this flood of mental shortcuts and concepts just like I did at the annual ball of accountants. It also seems to me that a more adequate title would be "Championship Manager is my life," because it is the first years, the first editions of the game are the dominant axis of discussion. However, I understand why this did not happen.

Would I read the book again? Well ... yes. Repeatedly. For I have a strange impression that this is not a book read at all, from A to Z. It is a peculiar set of parables, such a sacred letter from Football Manager fanatics, with a word of support, encouragement, advice for each upcoming match.
