Samsung Galaxy Z Flip finally came to us for testing. See how the new foldable smartphone works.
I have waited a long time for the tests of this device and I must admit that I could not wait for them. Although I am currently testing Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra - which, after all, is lacking - it was Galaxy Z Flip that stimulated my imagination more.
Today Samsung Galaxy Z flip came to me for tests, and I can not stop looking at it.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has something inside. It's fresh, groundbreaking and just different. It is impossible to confuse it with any other smartphone, which is a big differentiator against the background of identical-looking rivals.
Galaxy Z Flip is also pretty ... or maybe even too pretty. The smartphone came to me in pink, which seems very candy . Quite honestly, I like this look. This is the most feminine smartphone design I've ever dealt with, but if I stood before buying the Galaxy Z Flip, I'd rather choose this crazy pink instead of boring and black to the limits.
In theory, folding construction doesn't make much sense. In practice, it makes a great impression and gives the impression of thoughtful and refined.
When I tested the Samsung Galaxy Fold, I greatly appreciated the large size of the display after unfolding the smartphone. Basically, it was more a tablet than a smartphone. For the time of testing, my iPad went away because I had a Samsung tablet in my pocket. This form of device was something breakthrough for the mobile market.
After the announcements of Motorola Razr and Galaxy With Flip I was of the opinion that a smartphone folded in half does not make sense. Contrary to popular admiration, I was skeptical because I saw no added value. If the standard smartphone with a screen size of 6.5 inches (and even 6.9, as in the Galaxy S20 Ultra) fits in your pocket, why complicate the case and force reduce the size?
Well, I took a moment with the Galaxy Z Flip and found out in practice that this solution makes sense. The folded smartphone lies in the pocket better than a large block like Galaxy S20 Ultra. Although it is thicker after folding, the whole is better suited to the pocket.
Hinge with horizontal placement? For now, I'm not a fan of this solution.
The hinge in the Galaxy Z Flip, unlike the Galaxy Fold, can be set at any angle. Thanks to this, the smartphone can stand on a flat surface like a laptop. I don't see much sense in it. Perhaps it will work in selfie photos, because you won't need a stand.
Only that we will achieve a better effect by using an external (main) lens for the photo. In this variant, the tiny external screen serves as a preview of the image. Turn the camera on using the power button, and between the lenses (standard and ultra wide-angle) we switch the gesture of shifting to the side on the screen. The preview is filigree, but it is enough to point the camera. It is worth exercising for a moment, because in this way we will get better quality of photos.
Returning to the foldable structure, it can also be used to recall the early years of this millennium when talking on the phone.
The screen has a fold in the center. Unfortunately, you can feel them under your finger.
For this, you feel almost constantly, because the horizontal bend can be felt when scrolling the elements on the screen. And we are constantly scrolling something on the smartphone. In Galaxy Fold, I touched the vertical indentation less often.
The screen itself - although glass was actually used for its production - is not a glass surface. We feel some kind of foil or soft, flexible plastic under our fingers. Tactile sensations resemble glass, but a few small scratches and "concavities" reveal that the material is quite soft. I just unpacked the phone. You will definitely need to be careful not to scratch the display.
This can be embarrassing because you can see that dust accumulates on the inside of the hinges.
In addition, the structure does not fold flat perfectly when folded.
The fingerprint reader is extremely fast and convenient.
The reader is located in the side wall, which is in my opinion the best solution on the market.
Let's take a look at the front screen.
It is tiny, but it is colorful and tactile. Shows notifications, time, date and battery level. When we scroll the screen to the side, we will see the icons of recent notifications, unfortunately without previewing the content. The screen is therefore functional.
And this is how Galaxy Z Flip looks like next to the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
Smartphones have almost the same height, but the Galaxy Z Flip is narrower. You can feel the difference in practice, but using the Galaxy Z Flipa is convenient. Of course, you can forget to reach into the upper beam with your thumb. At first glance, you can also see the difference in frame thickness, but live Galaxy Z Flip frames don't look bad.
That's it for the first user experience. I've only had a smartphone for a few hours, so it's time to check the performance, battery and camera. Let me know in the comments what I should check first.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip in our hands. Finally something new!
