Qualcomm worries: Many manufacturers do without the Snapdragon 865

Qualcomm may have some worry lines on his forehead. Because in rows, manufacturers do without the Snapdragon 865. The reason is simple, the SoC is too expensive for them!

Qualcomm has put all of its experience and many costs into the new SD865 and the X55 modem. And that doesn't make the SoC cheap. And for many manufacturers it is simply too expensive. Therefore, many of them do without the flagship SoC.

Instead, they opt for other options to lower the manufacturing costs of their devices and not to let the prices of smartphones increase further. Qualcomm is now making a strange decision to be expensive.

In recent years, the manufacturer has promoted 5G networks and even introduced modems in mid-range processors such as the Snapdragon 765 & 765G. At the same time, those who want to use the flagship SoC must also pay for a separate X55 5G modem, even if they want to bring out a smartphone with pure 4G support.

Therefore, many manufacturers of flagship smartphones are not interested in an expensive processor this year, especially in a saturated market, even in times of declining sales due to the corona virus.

In particular, we are talking about upcoming smartphones like the LG G9 ThinQ . It will use the Snapdragon 765G processor with a built-in 5G modem. The same applies to HMD and Nokia 8.3 . With regard to future devices, there is also evidence for the Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL to move away from the Snapdragon 865.

Future 5G-enabled iPhone smartphones should get the Snapdragon X55 modem, as Apple has no choice. There is such a choice on Android, where manufacturers choose cheaper and simpler processors and save money.

In the meantime, Qualcomm is already promoting the next X60 5G modem. But is it still worth it?
