After months of announcements, Lidl Pay has been officially implemented. This is a new non-cash payment system that will work best right now in the face of a coronavirus pandemic.
We have informed about Lidl Pay many times over the past months. The pilot program started already in June, but only with a selected group of users. Now the new payment system is being implemented more broadly. In my case, I can already see it in the Lidl Plus mobile application.
Lidl Pay is a new smartphone payment system
Lidl Pay is a payment system built into the Lidl Plus application. If after opening the application you see a new welcome screen, it will mean that Lidl Pay is already working in your main store.
The payment system is based on the QR code, which we scan at the checkout. Thanks to this, you can pay contactless even with cheap smartphones that do not have the NFC module needed for typical contactless payments.
The system requires the connection of a payment card to the Lidl Plus application. We can do it in the "More" tab - "My wallet".
Lidl Play allows you to pay without entering a PIN
This is especially important nowadays, when you need to limit touching surfaces that other people touch. Such a surface is also the pinpad keyboard, on which you need to enter the PIN when paying by card and when using, for example, Android Pay contactless payments. There are very few systems that allow you to pay without a PIN regardless of the amount. These include, for example, Apple Pay and Garmin Pay.
The Lidl Pay service will also allow you to pay without entering a PIN at the store terminal. Until now, the Lidl Pay system operated in Spain.
In addition, Lidl introduces more security in stores
This time we are talking about physical safeguards in the form of transparent screens that will stand at the ticket office. They will be panels made of plexiglass, thanks to which cashiers are to feel safer.
In addition, the Lidl network will introduce tapes that maintain long distances between customers in the queue to the cash register. In addition, stores stipulate that they may limit the number of people who are simultaneously in the store.
The Lidl Plus application, in which the new Lidl Pay payment service works, is free and works on smartphones with Android and iOS .
