Huawei P40 and P40 Pro just had their official premiere. The top Huawei P40 Pro + also debuted with them. They all focus primarily on great cameras, but this is just the beginning of the news.

Huawei P40 Pro +, P40 Pro and the base variant P40 are now officially available. For the first time we see the flagship models available in three variants. The P40 Pro + looks identical to the P40 Pro, but differs from it at several points in the specification.

The flagship Huawei P40 Pro + and P40 Pro models have top specifications.

Let's start with the element viewed most often, i.e. screens. The Huawei P40 Pro and P40 Pro + use the same 6.58-inch OLED panel with FullHD + resolution. The screen has curved edges, slightly overlapping the side frames. The screen works with fast refresh at 90 Hz, and supports HDR10 + and a wide color mammoth DCI-P3.

In both models in the corner of the screen there is a fairly large notch housing a 32-megapixel front camera and a FaceUnlock infrared sensor. In addition, the screen also has a fingerprint reader.

The smartphones have an identical housing made of metal and glass covering the front and back. The housing is sealed and meets the IP68 standard. Inside you will find the top specification, led by the latest and fastest Huawei processor, Kirin 990 5G. For this we have 8 GB RAM and 128 or 256 GB memory expandable with NM cards. The P40 Pro + variant does not differ in this respect from the P40 Pro.

Cameras created together with the Leica company are placed on a wide vertical islet, which protrudes quite strongly above the back wall. There are four lenses on the island.

In both cases, the main camera has 50 megapixels and a very large matrix with a diagonal of up to 1 / 1.28 inches. It works with a lens with f / 1.9 brightness and optical stabilization.

For this we have a completely new wide-angle module with a large matrix (1 / 1.54 inch) with a resolution of 40 megapixels and a lens f / 1.8. Both smartphones also have a ToF sensor to detect depth of field.

The difference appears in the telephoto lens. Huawei P40 Pro is equipped with a stabilized periscope telephoto lens with 5x (125 mm) zoom factor, with a 12 MP matrix and f / 3.4 lens brightness. The telephoto lens has a 50x digital zoom.

In the Huawei P40 Pro + you will find a more powerful SuperZoom Array telephoto lens, with 10x optical zoom and up to 100x digital zoom.

The camera's software will include several new features, including improved artificial intelligence algorithms, Golden Snap - AI Best Moments mode to automatically select the best photo in the series (the mode analyzes, among others, facial expressions), and there is the possibility of removing unwanted elements from the background. Smartphones record the image 1.7 seconds before and after pressing the shutter, and the acquired data can be used e.g. to remove a pedestrian walking in the background.

The Huawei P40 series smartphone camera also supports gesture detection, which allows you to take pictures without using your hands.

Huawei P40 Pro and P40 Pro + largely focus on better video. Smartphones record in 4K at 60 fps and have much more efficient image stabilization. We have a slow-motion mode available at up to 7680 fps, enabling the display of the image in a slow motion up to 256 times. There are also 4K time-lapse movies that also work in very low light, including an ultra wide-angle lens.

Both smartphones are equipped with a battery with a capacity of 4200 mAh. We charge it via a USB-C port using Huawei SuperCharge 40W fast charging technology. We also have wireless induction charging with 30W in the P40 Pro + and 27W in the P40 Pro. Both smartphones also have a reverse charge function, so they can be treated as wireless power banks.

There was also Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC connectivity on board. The dimensions of the P40 Pro and P40 Pro + are 158.2 x 72.6 x 9 mm, and the weight is 203 g.

The OLED screen has a diagonal of 6.11 inches and FullHD + resolution. The panel is completely flat. In the corner you will also find a notch for a double camera (same as in P40 Pro) and an infrared face scanner. There is also a fingerprint scanner built into the display.

The difference is also the camera. In Huawei P40 we have a triple module. The main one is the same as on the P40 Pro and Pro + models, but the telephoto lens and ultra-wide angle are different. The former has a 3x magnification factor, 8 MP resolution and f / 2.4 quality. In turn, the ultra-wide angle camera has a 16 MP matrix and a 17 mm lens. Huawei P40 allows you to record video in 4K quality at 60 fps.

Huawei P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro + have Huawei Mobile Services instead of Google Services.

The new generation of the P40 line is released after the Donald Trump bans, and thus, smartphones work under Android 10 and EMUI 10.1 overlays, but are deprived of Google Services. Instead, Huawei Mobile Services are available, headed by the AppGallery application store.
