Great Britain and Sweden underestimate coronavirus? Member of the WHO Council: this epidemic will change the world

The outbreak caused by the coronavirus will last in the UK until spring 2021. During this time, 80 percent will fall ill. The British, and almost 8 million of them will require hospitalization - says a secret report from the Public Health England government agency prepared for representatives of the British Health Service (NHS).

The document , which was first written by the British newspaper The Guardian, is the first in which representatives of PHE admit that the epidemic will last about 12 months, coronavirus will affect more than 50 million inhabitants of Great Britain, and 15 percent. of them will require hospitalization.

Professor Chris Whitty, head of the British medical services, had already reported that in the worst case scenario, up to 80% of people could get sick. The British, but the document prepared for the NHS has already stated that researchers "expect" 4 out of 5 people, which is not the worst-case scenario, but expected.

In the Guardian document, PHE describes not only the impact of coronavirus on the health of the society, but also on the personnel used in the fight against it, i.e. health care, law enforcement, fire brigade or transport. Researchers believe that at the peak of the epidemic there will be about 500,000 out of 5 million people working in these services.

Experts cited in the article admit that the public will be very concerned about the information that we will have to fight coronavirus for up to 12 months, but at the same time it is a very realistic forecast.

I think that the number of cases will fall in the summer, at the end of June and increase again in November, similar to a typical group. I think this coronavirus will stay with us forever, but over time it will become less and less dangerous as we acquire immunity - says prof. Paul Hunter from the University of East Anglia.

The above information seems to break the hope that higher temperatures in the upcoming summer months will lead to the disappearance of the virus. The authors of the report estimate that at the top of the epidemic 10 percent. Brits will have a cough. In a document presented on Thursday, the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, recommends to all coughing people self-isolation for a period of 7 days.

The British healthcare service is not able to cope with the huge number of people with symptoms of infection and will only carry out tests on seriously ill people who are already in hospitals and in nursing homes and prisons where at least one coronavirus infection has been detected. Medical staff will not be tested for coronavirus, despite the fact that they will look after infected people.

If the mortality will remain at 1 percent. experts estimate that 531,000 people may die of the coronavirus within the next year.

Professor Whitty is convinced that, in fact, mortality will fall to 0.6 percent, which will mean 318,660 deaths in the coming year.

In Sweden, meanwhile, every day.

A similar, stoic (if not inertial) approach to the pandemic prevails in the north of the continent. Polish triathlete Joanna Sołtysiak shared her observations on Facebook about the reaction of the Swedes to the upcoming problem.

Contrary to what we observe in our country, in Sweden the authorities have not decided to introduce any decisive changes. Students continue to attend classes as before. In the evenings, gyms, clubs and swimming pools are public.

As if that was not enough, Swedish scientists said that the virus is relatively safe and causes mortality in only 2 percent. cases. For this reason, tests were discontinued in Sweden a few days ago.

In the last hours, however, the post has disappeared from the triathlete's profile.

Meanwhile, a member of the Executive Board of the World Health Organization ...

Walter Ricciardi , a member of the WHO Executive Board and advisor to the Italian Minister of Health, has a completely different view on the dangers of spreading coronavirus worldwide.

In a Twitter post Ricciardi wrote:

To economists around the world who are worried about what will happen, I would say that we need to take care of what is right now, because during this pandemic everyone will fall ill, including young people and health care workers, and many will die. This is an event that will change the world.

Seeing such drastically different opinions reaching us from different parts of Europe, it remains to be hoped that the worst scenarios will not come true. It would be much better for us to find out that specialists are right saying that coronavirus is not as scary as it is painted. However, until we know it, it is better to be very cautious.
