Fujifilm X-T200 may be the best small and inexpensive camera on the market

Fujifilm X-T200

A first glance at the Fujifilm X-T200 specification shows that it has everything you would expect from this class of equipment. This is not just a slight refresh of the series. Although the stylish body is similar, a lot was changed inside. In almost every way, the camera looks better than its predecessor.

Already shown in 2018. Fujifilm X-T100 was an interesting camera, but he had at least one serious drawback: offer poor quality films. 4K at 15 fps? No thanks. However, its successor X-T200 is a completely different story.

More, faster, better. The same matrix, but more possibilities

The heart of the Fujifilm X-T200 is the 24-megapixel APS-C matrix with traditional Bayer filter. Unfortunately, this is not one of the X-Trans sensors that more expensive models of this manufacturer were famous for. It looks like the same or slightly improved matrix as in the predecessor.

However, the camera uses copper wiring, which allowed to achieve better results. The camera processes data 3.5 times faster than the X-T100. The rolling shutter effect is to be less noticeable and the maximum native sensitivity has been increased from ISO 12800 to 25600. The maximum continuous shooting speed has also improved, which is now 8 fps (5.9 fps in the X-T100) .

The camera's strong point should be the AF system, which was equipped with 140 thousand. pixels (16,000 in X-T100). The PDAF coverage area now covers the entire matrix, not just 25 percent. in the center. We also have 425 AF points (91 points in X-T100).

The latest advanced algorithms are designed to help with quick face and eye detection and object tracking. We can therefore expect that the AF system will work much better than its predecessor, but probably not as well as in the X-T30, which has as much as 2.16 million pixel phase detection on the matrix.

Vloggers will be pleased. There is 4K 30 fps and a huge, tilted screen

Admittedly, Fujifilm X-T100 was shooting 4K movies, but only at 15 fps, which in practice was a ridiculous joke. Designers have fixed this bug and X-T200 has improved movie mode. You can choose from 4K 30fps, 24fps without crop or Full HD 120fps movies. The movie function has been added to the mode dial.

Although the camera does not have a matrix stabilization system, but the function of digital image stabilization has been added, which when using gyro in the body is supposed to work just like a gimbal. He can't probably replace a real gimbal, but it can help with simple hand-held shots, e.g. for vlogs. There was a minijack connector for connecting the microphone. The camera also has a USB-C socket through which you can connect headphones using the adapter.

An important novelty is the huge LCD screen for cameras. The X-T100 rather did not stand out in this matter, offering a 3-inch, 1.04 Mpix LCD touch screen with a classic 180 degree tilt system. This solution was not bad, but it was not suitable for vlogs or selfies.

The Fujifilm X-T200 has a much larger 3.5-inch LCD display with a 16: 9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2.76 million dots. It looks a bit like the screen of a small smartphone and that's probably it. Importantly, from the vloger's perspective, the screen has a mount on the left side, so you can tilt it to selfie mode with one move. It can be opened and closed in the range of 0-180 degrees, and rotated in the range from -90 to +180 degrees. In my opinion, this is simply the best system for attaching the display in cameras and I'm glad it's the next new model with such a solution.

Great design, simplified ergonomics, but also lower weight

When buying a camera of this class, we expect it to be beautiful, light, small and easy to use. This is more or less how Fujifilm X-T200 can be described at first glance. This is one of the most stylish mirrorless cameras on the market. The corps have gone through a good diet over the past two years. Not only now weighs only 370 g (78 g less than X-T100), but got rid of the 4-way selector. However, a joystick known from other cameras of this brand appeared. Unfortunately, the joystick is located very low, it is not within reach of the thumb. The back looks like transplanted from the cheaper Fujifilm X-A7 model, but with four round buttons and the whole upper part attached.

Speaking of treble, this part of the camera has also been slightly improved. There we will find knobs without any markings, which is probably used to change the modes of film simulation, there is a mode dial and an exposure dial. You can see that a new, slightly concave trigger was used, which can improve the pleasure of shooting.

The knob, which was located on the back of the X-T100, is now around the trigger, which should also positively affect ergonomics. The on / off lever has disappeared, but a horizontal button appears between the shields. The least changes are in the front, although you can see that a fairly solid grip has been added here. The predecessor did not have it by default, but a tightened handle was added in the set.

Fujifilm X-T200 - is it worth the new price?

Fujifilm X-T200 on paper looks much better in almost every respect than its predecessor X-T100. I think that even replacing the additional buttons with the joystick will work for him. Looking only at the specifications for a camera of this class, it lacks nothing. It is, however, well tailored to the needs of modern artists. And they often record movies or vlogs. In this respect, the X-T200 has a lot to offer.

Something for something. Unfortunately, a much higher price goes hand in hand with much better parameters. On the day of the premiere, its predecessor cost about PLN 3,000 with kit glass. For the Fujifilm X-T200 in the set with the kit lens XC 15-45 mm F3.5-5.6 OIS PZ will come to pay 3699 PLN. The camera will be available in Polish stores at the end of February 2020.

Over the past six months, Fujifilm has shown three new models with APS-C matrixes: from the most expensive X-Pro 3 to the cheapest X-A7. Now the X-T200 has appeared. Will Fujifilm X-T4 be next in line? There are many indications.

Fujinon XC 35 mm f / 2 to the set

With the release of the X-T200, the Japanese manufacturer showed an interesting new Fujifilm Fujinon XC 35 mm f / 2 lens. It's the equivalent of a classic, popular "fifty". The small glass gives the equivalent of 50 mm focal length with the APS-C matrix. The lens is small, light and cheap: it costs only 199 USD, which is probably around 900 PLN in Poland.

The design has a plastic housing and a bayonet, but inside we have the same optical system as the costing about PLN 1500 model XF 35 mm F2 R WR. More specifically, there are 9 elements in 6 groups, including two aspherical elements and a 9-blade aperture. There was also a fast and noiseless stepper motor, which will be useful when recording movies. Compared to the older brother, there were no seals or aperture ring.
