Chaos approaches Fortnite. Contrary to appearances, this is not the nickname of the insane Black Forest with an interesting skin to grab, but a completely new system responsible for damage implemented in Unreal Engine 4.

The current season in Fortnite Chapter 2 will be longer than usual. Epic Games announced the extension of the game due to very important, thorough and fundamental changes under the hood. Fortnite is switching to a completely new physical system responsible for destruction with the fanciful name of Chaos. Chaos is a collection of tools in the beta stage, while network battle royale will be the first title to use them on a large scale.

The new release date for the second season of matches for Fortnite Chapter 2 was set for February 20, 2020. By that time, Epic Games wants to implement a new destruction system in its most profitable production. Interestingly, most likely, players will not feel any clear difference. Game producers ensure that although much will change under the hood, their goal is to make Fortnite continue to act like Fortnite. So do not expect destruction on a completely new, crazy scale.

Most likely Epic Games will expand Fortnite with additional destruction options in the months and years ahead. Chaos can introduce completely new tactical elements to the game, such as plaster and debris falling on the hero after a rocket hit or a bomb explodes. I wonder if the specialists from Unreal Engine 4 will be able to import the same solution, on the same scale, to play the version for Nintendo Switch or mobile devices. Nintendo already has a problem today to ensure smooth gameplay in 30 frames per second and with a satisfactory visual layer.

Chaos doesn't electrify me. We had a lot of projects with advanced destruction systems.

Until now, I remember the amazing environment devastation system implemented for the Battlefield Bad Company 2 shooter. But it was wonderful! Awesome! We were able to level entire houses, completely changing the map layout. It is a pity that in this respect, each subsequent installment of Battlefield was a step backwards. Instead of developing this amazing system, DICE rolled it up and diminished its importance. It still hurts today.

Another title that makes a great impression from the perspective of the destruction of the environment is Red Faction: Guerrilla. Unless my memory deceives me, we were pretty good at our time in the Max Payne third person shooter. The plaster was crumbling, debris was falling, and the walls were falling off in pieces. Microsoft, in turn, wanted to resist the destruction of the virtual world on the computing power of the cloud, using Crackdown 3 for this came out very badly.
