The DxO service has tested the Pixel 4 camera, and the result probably surprised everyone. Google's new smartphone, despite the large photographic traditions of its predecessors, took only eighth place in the camera ranking.

The latest Pixel 4 has just been re-spotted by DxO testers reaching a total score of 112 points, which places it in eighth place. The Pixela 4 camera lost to Samsung Galaxy S10 and Note 10+, Huawei Mate 20 Pro and P30 Pro, and even to Honor 20 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. How is it possible that a smartphone with such rich photographic traditions did so poorly in the test?

The reason is again the rigid, completely inflexible methodology of DxO research. For a long time, the service has been criticized for not including an ultra wide-angle lens in its measurements. It was only this year that DxO made up for this shortfall. It is this fact that the result of Pixel 4 is poor. The smartphone does not have a wide-angle lens, so it lost a lot of points for this element.

Is that right You could say it's crap, because the other two Pixel cameras are great. The lack of an ultra-wide angle is not a camera defect, but a design decision. If the ultra-wide angle were weak, subtracting points would be justified, but you can't do it when such a lens is missing.

On the other hand, DxO is right, because the presence of three lenses gives unprecedented versatility in mobile photography. Three viewing angles in pocket equipment are the biggest revolution since the camera can be put into the pocket. At the same time, this camera arrangement has become a standard in the high shelf of smartphones, so looking at the matter through such a lens, Pixel 4 actually looks like defective equipment. The basic Pixel 4 lens draws a great picture, often overtaking the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+.
