You have a MacBook - buy this monitor. LG showed new Ultrafine monitors for Apple computers

When Apple withdrew Thunderbolt Display from the offer years ago, it was LG Ultrafine monitors that filled the gap after it. Now they are coming back to the offer in a new version.

LG monitors for Apple computers were to be the equivalent of displays in the new iMacs - the smaller one had 21.5 "and 4K resolution, while the 27-inch variant had a resolution of up to 5K. Both panels presented really fantastic image quality, covered the sRGB and DCI-P3 100% color spaces, and one cable was enough to connect them to MacBooks.

The same can be said about the new versions of LG Ultrafine, which have just hit the Apple store.

First of all, the size of the smaller of the two monitors, LG Ultrafine 4K has changed.

As we wrote in May , the new small panel has not 21.5, but 23.7 "and a resolution of 3840 x 2160 px. The monitor can be connected to a computer using a Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C cable. There are two Thunderbolt 3 ports on the monitor, so we can connect another monitor using the so-called daisy-chain. In addition, we have three USB-C ports to connect accessories - theoretically, we can use our monitor as a docking station for our Mac.

The use of the USB-C standard for data and image transfer also means that the new LG Ultrafine monitors can also be used as displays for iPads Pro with USB-C.

LG Ultrafine 4K still offers full DCI-P3 and sRGB gamut coverage at a brightness of 500 cd / m2. However, the biggest change from the previous small LG monitor is the power supply; The 21.5-inch monitor could provide a maximum of 60W of power to the laptop, i.e. it was not able to power the 15-inch MacBook Pro. The new monitor provides up to 85W of power, so we can also easily connect a larger MacBook to it.

LG Ultrafine 5K remained almost unchanged from the previous generation. It is still a 27-inch panel with a resolution of 5120 x 2880 px and like the smaller monitor has a brightness of 500 cd / m2 and full coverage of sRGB and DCI-P3 gamut.

The larger of the monitors has something that is not smaller - a built-in camera and microphones. Both have stereo speakers.

The smaller monitor has one more Thunderbolt 3 port - LG Ultrafine 5K has only one Thunderbolt 3 port and 3 USB-C ports. Thunderbolt 3 port can provide as much as 94W of power. It may be a far-reaching guess, but I bet that the use of 94-watt power transmission means that the upcoming MacBook Pro 16 will have just such a power supply. And this allows you to hope for stronger components than the current MacBook Pro 15.

LG Ultrafine 5K

If you have a MacBook - this is the only monitor you need.

Unless you are a professional photographer working with the Adobe RGB color space or a professional filmmaker who has not seen the world outside the Apple Pro Display XDR for two months - there is no reason to buy a MacBook monitor other than LG Ultrafine.

If only the price is not an obstacle, in return for PLN 3249 and 5999, respectively, we get fantastic quality displays, which are really not expensive, and also function as docking stations for Apple laptops. One cable and magic happens.

The only objective negative for many people can be the shiny coating of the display. LG Ultrafine do not have - like the vast majority of monitors - a matte coating that would reduce glare, but a shiny coating. This is not as brilliant as in iMacs, but it can still disturb.

Apart from this little thing, I have no comments. LG Ultrafine 4K and LG Ultrafine 5K are probably the best MacBook accessories you can buy.
