The title of National Geographic Travel Photographer of the Year 2019 was obtained from China Weimin Chu. The photographer received $ 7,500 as a reward. His photography "Greenlandic Winter" also received the highest marks in the "city" category.

The awarded work was done in Upernavik - a fishing village on a tiny island in western Greenland. As Chu comments:

Historically, Greenlandic buildings were painted in different colors to indicate different functions, from the red shop windows to the blue fishermen's houses - a useful distinction when the landscape is covered with snow. This photo was taken during my three-month, personal photographic project presenting life in Greenland.
