Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is not a grateful material for moving to a mobile console. The game of a relatively open world has been stuffed with magical missiles, explosions, battles against giant enemies and group clashes. The more I have appreciation for the Poles from the QLOC studio who have undertaken to work for Capcom.

You can write that moving the game from 2013 should not be a challenge. Just look at the specificity of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen to understand how problematic this project is. A team of four traveling across an open world with a variable daily cycle can give impressions to many equipment. This was perfectly seen on the Xbox 360. There, Capcom's cRPG was very sluggish, confronting the vision of producers with technological limitations.

Poles from QLOC achieved on the Switch what Capcom did not succeed on Xbox 360.

In both mobile and stationary mode, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen works in 30 fps. These 30 frames per second are stable as the views of Marek Jurek. Concrete can not be broken. Even when running towards the old castle, with the rays of the sun breaking through the crown of the tree, with a large glade stretching right next to it, the gameplay does not slow down. On PS4 or PC, such an achievement would not be impressive. However, on the Switch - not bad. Not bad at all.

The only moments in which the fluidity of the game fell down took place deep underground. In some dark caverns and forgotten temples, I felt the screen tear. Magic bullets threw colorful lights on the walls. Tongues of flames danced on the rocks. The weapons crashed during a close combat in close combat. Then and mainly then, the Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen can sporadically, but noticeably crunch. Fortunately, the magician's game is not fraught with noticeably less pleasure.

Operation of the game is incomparably better than on the Xbox 360. Of course, even better Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen writes down on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, if you are looking for an extended cRPG with an open world for Switch, while Skyrim and Zelda have already gone the length and breadth of Dark Arisen will be a great position. Amazingly, it does not bother even the extensive interface. I was afraid that the tables, descriptions, dialogues and information on the tablet screen would be unreadable. Fortunately, it is not.

Of course, some compromises had to be made.

The biggest drawback of Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on the Nintendo Switch is the range of view of detailed objects. Landscape, architecture and great ornaments loom on the horizon from a very long distance. Unfortunately, bands of skeletons and fat goblins can almost grow up before the eyes. Regardless of whether he travels with his team during the day or at night.

For example, when we travel the open world, we see that at the length of the football field some small ruins are looming. However, it is only at a distance of 80 meters that we can see that there is a bonfire. In turn, only after shortening the distance to 50 meters, we discover that in the middle of a rocky shelter, they decided to camp their bandits. For someone who plays an archer or mage and would be able to inflict massive area attacks starting a fight, it is quite difficult.

Working on Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the Poles from QLOC added something.

I really liked the fact that the cRPG game partly uses the Switch's touch screen. For example, by applying a finger to the mini-map, we immediately see a large map of the world. Using physical controllers, such a procedure is possible only after two clicks; to the main menu and then to the tab with maps. It's not a big deal, it's a trifle, but you can get to know a good developer after such details.

Even before the premiere of the portable Dark Arisen, the QLOC team grew up on port specialists. I am convinced that now, when Dark Arisen hit the Switch, the position of Poles will only increase. Soon, the team from Warsaw will be as recognizable as Panic Button, famous for almost impossible ports that work almost perfectly. I am convinced that it was impossible to do much more from the technical side.

All right, what is Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen?



Wild. Very wild. DD: AA is not a typical representative of the genre. There is no quick journey here (except expensive, limited quantitatively rare artifacts). There is a lack of advanced relationships with comrades who have been reduced to the role of obedient house elves (it has a fictional meaning). The content is not linear, so you can easily find an island or dungeon for high-level characters. In addition, medieval fantasy combines with the exotic, Japanese influence of developers.

The fight itself is very unique. Dragon's Dogma allows for such wonders as catching enemies or climbing big monsters. Many arcade elements have been introduced in duels. Dark Arisen encourages active battle. Even when playing as a magician or wizard, it simply does not pay off. In this respect, the Capcom game is absolutely unique. Closer to God of War than Neverwinter Nights.

There are games, such as the Polish Observer, which do not gain anything from the additional value of mobility . I thought Dragon's Dogma would be such a title. Fortunately, I was wrong. The launch of Dark Arisen on a train or bus, just in time to do one side quest, is a great thing. The game looks great on a small screen. Unfortunately, the price for a small product is no longer (PLN 124). That's why I perfectly understand those who sniff at the game port from 2013 for a three-digit rate.

However, if you already have Zelda, Xenoblades and Skyrim behind you, and you do not have enough extensive cRPG with an open world, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen will be a very solid position for every Switch owner. Considering the possibilities and limitations of this tablet, the game works and it looks like your fingers lick. Good job, QLOC.
