Two or three smartphones ago I used devices that had 128 GB of memory. Times, however, change and today ... I successfully fit into a smartphone that has 32 or 64 GB. The solution to the problems fell from the sky. To be more exact: from the cloud.

For many years I lived with the conviction that the smartphone should have a lot of space for my data. I wanted to have all my favorite music in it, all important documents, and of course movies and photos. Just carrying all the archives in your pocket was not the only task of smartphone memory. This one had to be ready for new files, and I always had ambitious plans - I wanted to take even more photos and record even more movies with the new, better camera on my phone.

That's why I always bought for stock. More space on your smartphone. Bigger and faster memory cards. I did it so that the equipment would never let me down.

How has this strategy worked over many years? It's quite weak for me to say.

The effect is that a lot of my old photos have been lost. Once my external disk broke down, on which I archived photos from old phones. Some smartphones have broken and I lost data forever. Other photos and videos have been lost when I thought I'd like to restore the system back to factory settings on my phone or computer.

Simply put - there was not much space left on smartphones. What about the fact that the devices allowed for the recording of many photos and videos, since these treasures from time to time, for some or other reasons, were irretrievably lost.

The solution fell from the sky

When the clouds started to popularize, I started to keep my documents and multimedia in them. For a very long time I used the Mega cloud, which at the time was famous for giving a lot of space for data completely free. The Mega application allowed me to automatically save all photos taken with the phone to the cloud, so I did not have to worry about anything - the software remembered for me to save a backup of photos in a safe place.

Later, Google Photos appeared, which in the free plan allow you to save photos in high quality. I used Google Pixel smartphones for a while, which in Google Photos can save photos in full quality without limit.

Then I moved to the iPhone. But after many years with Android, I was not convinced of Apple smartphones, so I did not want to overpay too much. Therefore, for the beginning I decided on a good, but cheap model - I bought an iPhone 7 with 32 GB of memory.

I will not be blaming - I was afraid of these 32 GB. I expected that the memory would end soon, and I would have a problem.

However, it did not happen. A cloud came with help. I paid iCloud and there I started to save photos and videos, and thanks to synchronization I had access to them on all my devices, i.e. smartphone, tablet and desktop computer.

Now I have a new smartphone. With a bit more memory. However, most of it remains constantly free and awaits emergency situations. Meanwhile, I still use clouds. And two. That's for sure I save all photos and videos in full quality in iCloud and in reduced but still good quality in Google Photos.

How to deal with a small smartphone memory?

First, check if your smartphone's manufacturer offers some kind of cloud. This solution has, for example, Apple or Huawei and most often the solutions of the manufacturer of the phone work best.

But you can always use:

# 1 Google Photos and # 2 Google Drive

The Google Photos app, also known as Google Photos, allows any registered user to save unlimited photos and videos in high quality. Google's algorithms are responsible for the compression of materials and they work quite well. Photographs do not lose much of their quality and are still able to enjoy the eye.

However, if you do not want to allow yourself any losses, then you can pay. By purchasing a place in the Google One cloud, you'll be able to archive your content in original quality. In the free plan, you can also save photos and videos without losing quality, but keep in mind that you only get 15 GB, which is shared between Gmail, Google Drive and Google Photos. This means that if you're actively using free Gmail and the free Google Drive, you might have little space left on Google Photos.

Photos and videos saved in Google Photos can be easily shared with and shared with selected people. The application also allows you to connect the so-called partner account. The partner will then gain access to all our photos, and we will take photos of the partner. A useful thing.

Google Photos are also distinguished by a very advanced and accurate search engine that allows you to precisely find specific photos. Just search for "Vienna" to see all our pictures from a trip to Vienna. In the same way, we will look for photos of a child, car, trees, buildings, etc.

100 GB on Google One costs PLN 8.99 per month or PLN 89.99 per year. 200 GB is for PLN 13.99 a month or PLN 139.99 a year.

For the demanding customers, packages will be appropriate: 2 TB for PLN 46.99 per month or PLN 469.99 per year, 10 TB for PLN 469.99 per month, 20 TB for PLN 939.99 per month or 30 TB for PLN 1399.99 per month.

I remind you: this place can be used not only on Google Photos. We'll successfully split them between Gmail and all Google Drive documents.

# 3 Dropbox

Dropbox is one of the most popular clouds. The company has been on the market for a long time and you can easily entrust its data to it. Personally, I have never paid for this cloud, but there are many people who have been paying for Dropbox for years among Spider's Web and my family and friends. They appreciate it for reliability and convenient applications for all the most popular platforms.

Dropbox installed on your computer can be set up so that all our documents are sent to the cloud. This feature is not just a backup. It is also a simple way to share files with co-workers and friends.

On the other hand, Dropbox on the smartphone will take care of all the photos and videos that we make by phone, immediately go to a safe place. Just in case.

Free Dropbox offers 2 GB of data space. The Dropbox Plus plan costs EUR 9.99 a month and at this price we get 1 TB. We will pay EUR 19.99 a month for Dropbox Professional and get 2 TB of space. We can pay for both plans in the so-called Annual settlement - we pay monthly, but we undertake to pay for a year. Then the prices are lower - 8.25 euros and 16.58 euros per month for Plus and Professional, respectively. It's worth considering an annual settlement once we test the Dropbox and we think that we want to stay with it for longer.

# 4 OneDrive

Personally, I do not have good experiences with OneDriv. I know that this service can be very slow on some devices and on some internet providers. Of course, there is no problem if you want to share a photo or a document with someone using Microsoft's cloud. Problems often arise when you have to download a movie shot in 4K from OneDrive.

Nevertheless, OneDrive is a service worth attention. We get 5 GB of space for free. All you have to do is register. If 5 GB is not enough, we can buy 50 GB a month for 7.99 PLN.

Microsoft's cloud, however, develops wings when we buy a rich package, which in addition to the space on the virtual drive includes access to powerful office tools, such as Word, Excell, Powerpoint, OneNote or Outlook.

We will pay PLN 29.99 per month or PLN 299.99 per year for the Office 365 Personal package and we will get 1 TB of data in the cloud for our data and Office for PC and Mac (which consists of the above-mentioned programs). We will also use the office package on mobile devices with Android and iOS.

If we are looking for a cloud and office tools for ourselves and the family, for PLN 42.99 per month or PLN 429.99 per year, we will buy Office 365 for Home Users. In this package, all applications of the Office Suite and 6 TB of data space in the cloud (1 TB for each of six users) are available.

# 5 Spotify or # 6 Apple Music

No, I was not wrong. Yes, I recommend Spotify as a solution to free space on your smartphone.

Personally, I do not have any emphysics. I do not have any music videos saved. I do not have a single movie or a TV series. All the media that I use every day are on servers, for access to which I pay ... or not.

Spotify and Apple Music are a great solution that frees us from the need to buy CDs, record, lose and transfer our favorite music. The resources of both websites are vast and successfully meet the needs of 99.99% of society. In 0.01% is Zakius and relatives and friends of the rabbit. Little chance that you will not find what you like on Apple Music or Spotify.

Personally, I'm addicted to listening to music. I do it a few hours a day because I can not work differently, like with headphones on my ears or in my ears. Only then I cut myself off from the environment and I can immerse myself in my own thoughts.

Streaming websites not only help me at work. They have completely changed the way I listen to music. Earlier, I only listened to what I knew and what I liked. Now I'm listening to it regularly, but most of the time I'm listening to what algorithms or editors of music websites recommend to me and I'm notoriously discovering new sounds, new albums and new authors. It's thanks to Spotify and Apple Music that I have new favorite artists that I would probably never know otherwise. It is thanks to streaming that I can jump on genres and constantly discover new hits.

And that, at the same time, I do not mess up unnecessary space on the phone, because I have everything in the cloud, it's an additional profit. Of course, if it is necessary, in some streaming applications you can save part of the music in the device's memory to have access to it, eg when traveling abroad.

You do not need to pay for Spotify. But you can. It is especially worth it if you do not like ads and you want to have access to all functions. The first three months cost PLN 0.99. Then you have to pay PLN 19.99 a month. If you want to buy a package for your family, you will do it for 29.99 PLN. Then you and even 5 other people will be able to use Spotify Premium. This pays off.

Apple Music you can pick up 1 free trial month. If you are a student, the next months will cost you 9.99 PLN. A standard plan costs PLN 19.99, while a family plan (you + 5 people) costs PLN 29.99.

Both services are very similar and offer almost the same. I bet on Apple Music, but if you choose Spotify, you'll be happy too.

# 7 Netflix and # 8 HBO Go

I have the same with movies and TV series. I do not write them down. I do not play, I record and do not transfer anywhere. They're all on servers that I can access for a small fee. Yes, small. My editorial colleague, Łukasz Kotkowski, has recently calculated what is more profitable - Netflix, HBO Go, Spotify, etc. Whether buying CDs with music, movies or TV series is your property. Streaming won by knockout, proving to be not only a more convenient, but also much cheaper solution. Even if you pay for several services every month, it still pays more than buying CDs and DVDs.

Netflix starts from PLN 34 per month. For the price of two tickets to the cinema, we get a lot of great movies, documentaries, documents and a vast database of serials. In my opinion, however, it is worth paying PLN 43 - we pay extra for HD quality and the ability to watch on two screens simultaneously. If we have a larger family and / or we want to make use of the 4K TV, we will pay 52 zlotys a month. This is still an acceptable amount, considering how much we get and that several household members can use at the same time.

HBO It is also not expensive. For 19,90 PLN we get access to a database of films and great series. We can use on different devices, and test for free for a good start for a month.

Do not be afraid of a smartphone with a small memory. Buy Xiaomi Redmi 7

Xiaomi Redmi 7 almost everything is cool. It has a nice price, because it costs only 699 PLN. It has a nice screen, because it has a diagonal of 6.26 inches and a resolution of 1520 by 720 pixels. It has a nice octa-core processor, because Snapdragon 632 is enough for most applications. It also has a nice battery, because the cell has a capacity of up to 4000 mAh.

Someone can say that it has only 32 GB of internal memory and that it is not cool anymore. But I will not agree. For the last year I used a smartphone, which had so much space and also did not allow its expansion (and Xiaomi Redmi 7 allows!) And lived without dramas. Photographs and films were transferred to the cloud itself, the myth was from the clouds, movies and TV series were from the cloud. The effect was that I constantly had several gigabytes free. Just in case, if I wanted to suddenly record a lot of movies or save some music or series to my smartphone before a long journey.

That's why I strongly recommend the purchase of Redmi 7. The smartphone is available for purchase at RTV EURO AGD .

If you believe me that 32 GB on your smartphone does not mean a drama these days, but you are a bit scared, or you just know you need more memory, choose Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 .
