The game from Xbox One works on the Switch like gold. Cuphead seems to be created for a portable console - a review

What a time. The game with console exclusive for Xbox One hit the competitive Nintendo Switch. Microsoft gave the green light to an unusual partnership that created a great video game. The Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch console works like gold.

There are virtually no differences between the game for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. I defeated a dozen or so bosses and I am sure that this conversion is almost perfect. It is hardly surprising, because the project is responsible for the MDHR Studio itself - producers of versions for Xbox and Windows. So we have a full-fledged installment for Nintendo, straight from the creators. They not only made Cuphead work great, but also added a lot from each other.

Cuphead in Polish, with better movies, animations and effects during fights.

The MDHR studio has significantly improved the version of the Switch. Manufacturers have added support for the Polish language that can be selected in the settings. The translation is very much in a climate. Funny, playful, with very good superiors' own names. It's interesting to me who is responsible for them. A company that Microsoft typically outsources translations to? MDHR subcontractor? Because it's probably not Nintendo.

The creators also added the possibility of free choice of one of the two playable characters, expected by fans. Intermittent films have been animated, as have dialogues on the world map. For this MDHR dopijściło the game visually, adding to it better effects of the beam of light or explosions. All these changes were also sent to holders of Cupheada on Xbox and PC, in the form of an update.

60 frames, 1080p on the big screen and 720p in mobile mode.

In terms of achieved parameters, the Cuphead on the Nintendo Switch is 10 by 10. After docking the console, the game works at 60 frames per second while maintaining the native FHD image. This is the standard that not many games for the Japanese console can boast of. In turn, in the mobile mode the game adapts itself to the resolution of 720p (native tablet screen value), keeping 60 frames.

During the game there is no mention of any jams or slowdowns. Everything works like clockwork. What's more, Cuphead for Switch looks great even on the home screen 4K. Drawing graphics stylized for fairy tales from the 1930s stretch well, and the effect of the used film tape effectively masks the drop in sharpness. The only thing I can really check is the charging times, which are longer by a few seconds. Fortunately, more approaches in the same location are loaded immediately. So it is not a big problem.

Cuphead - great on the Xbox, but even better in the portable version.

Cuphead on the tablet screen looks sensational. Demanding arcade game fits perfectly with the Nintendo console. Both in terms of gameplay and visual layer. The syndrome of one more approach corresponds well to the mobile profile of the Switch. You take out the equipment from the backpack, you get three times the packs from the superbly designed boss and with the grinding of teeth you hide the console. You give yourself a moment to cool down again. Again. Then the last one. Then really the last one. Then the ward. Until the effect.

It's great that a single Joy-Con is enough to play the co-op mode. Thanks to this, even in the mobile mode, we can have fun together with a friend sitting next to us. Just put one of the controllers out and give it to your companion. Interestingly, Cuphead is not easier in co-op mode at all. Contrary. If your friend is lacking in skills, he can be an anchor pulling you straight to the bottom.

You must know that Cuphead is not an easy game. You will see the screen with the words "You Died" very often. However, every approach is learning for the future. Lesson from which to draw conclusions. Thanks to this, after the rehearsal, the test becomes better and more effective. Finally, after 2, 20 or 200 approaches, a difficult boss falls, unlocking the next world. Of course, the new land is full of even more difficult challenges.

The biggest advantages:

  • A great, demanding skill game
  • Binding of cartoons from the 1930s
  • 60 frames and FHD on the Switch
  • Polish language version
  • Fair price (PLN 80)
  • Works great in mobile mode

The biggest drawbacks:

  • Loading longer by a few seconds than on the Xbox

Great game, great conversion, great mobile mode and fair price. The Cuphead shines on the Nintendo Switch.
