After the refreshed Messengerze, we got another novelty from Facebook: Oculus Quest sunglasses and Oculus Rift S, which will go on sale in May.

Virtual reality has not died yet. Although until now VR equipment has not gained much popularity, we are witnessing a new hand in this segment. Facebook together with Oculus at the F8 conference showed two new sets of VR goggles, and we got to know the details of the Valve Index VR glasses. Also, do not forget about the upcoming PlayStation VR2 that are supposed to debut along with the PS5.

Let's start with Oculus Quest, or the autonomous VR goggles.

Oculus Quest is an independent virtual reality glasses, which means that they do not need a connection with a smartphone or a PC for work. It is an independent equipment that will allow you to play some of the best VR titles that have been released so far.

The glasses are equipped with their own screen with a resolution of 1600x1440 pixels for each eye, and in-built memory. The 64 GB variant costs 449 euros, and for double the capacity, we will pay 549 euros. The equipment will go on the market on May 21.

One disappointment is the fact that the kit works under the control of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile processor, which is two years old. The main purpose of Quest is to be games, and the list of titles to start includes as many as 53 items. In addition to the typically mobile games (Angry Birds VR, Fruit Ninja VR), we will also see larger productions, including the highly rated Beat Saber , VR Superhot , The Climb, Robo Recall, and Job Simulator. In the set we will get demo versions of five games, and the remaining titles will be available to buy.

The device's battery lasts for 2-3 hours of fun and we charge it via the USB-C port. The device does not require any external cameras, and all the elements needed to track movements are built into the goggles. In games, we use two included controllers, which are slightly refreshed version of Oculus Touch from 2016.

Oculus Rift S is the refreshment of the first Oculus Rift.

Oculus Rift S do not bring any revolution. They are still glasses designed to work with desktop computers and still require a wire to operate.

What changed? First of all, the fact that Rift S does not require external cameras, and the entire tracking system is built-in directly in the goggles. For this the screen has a slightly higher resolution and there are better lenses in front of it. The kit, costing 449 euros, contains two tactile controllers.

There is also competition from Valve.

Valve showed today the Index VR glasses, which can be ordered from tomorrow for the price of 999 dollars. In the set we get out of the glasses two controllers and two base stations. If we already have these accessories, because we previously had other VR goggles (eg Vive or Vive Pro), we can buy the same Valve Index VR glasses for $ 499.

Equipment, model Vive Pro, works through a five-meter cable. Gogolas do not have a built-in tracking camera system, so you need a base station to detect the player's moves.

A real revolution will come with PS VR2?

As you can see, players can count on a lot of new products. The most interesting is Oculus Quest, a completely new approach to gaming VR. Independent construction is the easiest way to enter the world of a large VR. The success will be determined by the quality of graphics, smooth operation and a list of titles available for this platform.

However, I have the impression that only Sony will show the right direction of development. Announced PS VR2 goggles are to be stripped of the cable, and this is said to refresh 120 Hz. However, we will wait for this premiere at least until 2020, and most probably until 2021.
