How does fast charging work? We translate on the example of OPPO SuperVOOC

Smartphones have it that they are unloading in the least expected moment. You probably know this situation: you have to go to work or school in a moment, and your equipment has an almost empty battery. In such cases, fast charging is useful.

The situation described above is extremely uncomfortable, because our smartphone currently has our whole life. It contains our maps, instant messengers, magazines, messages and even payment cards. Therefore, it is worth ensuring that it is always charged.

Unfortunately, connecting a smartphone for charging for a few or a dozen or so minutes will not change our situation. During this time, a typical battery will charge slightly. And even for this reason, it is worth to be interested in such a solution as fast loading.

What is fast charging?

It's charging your smartphone, just ... fast. How it works? If we use a regular charger, we are dealing with a current of 5V and a current of 1A. After multiplying these values by ourselves, we get the charger power, which in this case is 5W. These typical parameters are offered by typical smart chargers, for example those attached to iPhones. And they are the reason that it takes a long time to replenish the energy in the battery.

That's why more and more companies use different types of fast charging. The most popular solution of this type is current with a voltage of 5 V and intensity of 2 A, which is supported by all smartphones, including those made by Apple. To use it, simply equip yourself with a compatible cube. You can easily count that it provides twice as much power as standard charging. However, this is not all that technology can afford today, because even 10 W chargers are not too fast.

Numerous manufacturers decide to use non-standard fast charging technologies such as Quick Charge, Huawei SuperCharge and Oppo SuperVOOC. It is especially worth taking a look at the latter technology, because currently it is the fastest solution of this type. Oppo SuperVOOC is the first 50 W fast charging technology.

Using it, you can charge the battery of your Oppo RX17 Pro smartphone up to 40% in 10 minutes. And that's enough for a few hours of active use of the device.

Where is the secret of Oppo SuperVOOC ?

Above all, using two batteries instead of one and using a 10-volt current. This is split into two smaller streams to simultaneously charge both cells using a 5 V safe current. This is a more thoughtful solution than most fast charging technologies. Competitive technologies use high-voltage current that you have to lower when you bring it to your smartphone. This, in turn, causes the smartphone to heat up, a phenomenon unfavorable for delicate electronic components.

In this case, there is no problem, because Oppo smartphones do not contain a charging control circuit that generates a lot of heat. The Chinese decided to move it to the charger, because they quite rightly decided that the heat charger is a smaller threat than the overheated smartphone. And just feel it. Most smartphones are very warm when using fast charging, and Oppo's equipment keeps room temperature in the same scenario. This can affect the longer battery life and the smartphone itself.

Fast charging of the smartphone must be secure.

We need three things to use this solution: smartphone, charger and cable. All of these elements must be compatible with each other because there are many fast charging standards on the market that do not match. Fortunately, we do not have to remember about it, because currently most manufacturers add a quick charger to their smartphones and Oppo is no exception. For example, the box with the RX17 Pro includes all the components needed for quick charging.

The use of appropriate elements is needed for safety reasons. For example, the Oppo SuperVOOC is equipped with a five-stage protection to monitor the entire charging process - from the adapter to the cable ending to the USB-C port of the smartphone. The five chips used are ACDC (voltage conversion monitoring), VCU (real-time power control), cable identification system (recognition of the appropriate SuperVOOC charging environment), BMS (intelligent battery management) and MCU (supervision of the charging process).

Smart chip control can automatically determine if your smartphone and the charger connected to it support SuperVOOC to give them the power they need.

In addition, Oppo works closely with the Rheinland Laboratory in Germany (TUV) to conduct smartphone smartphone security research. The institution has completed 600 independent battery life tests, fast charging and discharging and over 10,000 connection and disconnection tests for port and cable life. These results clearly confirmed the advantages - speed and high safety of SuperVOOC.

I trust these results because I have been using numerous fast charging technologies for several years and have never been involved in any unpleasant incidents. That is why I recommend you also to be interested in this solution, and when selecting another smartphone, check not only the type of screen, housing and camera used, but also how quickly you will be able to fill in energy shortages in a crisis situation.

The material was created in cooperation with the Oppo brand.
