This year's line of Samsung Galaxy S is unique, because we saw as many as four Galaxy S10. In addition to the standard variant and those with a plus, we also have an inaccessible Galaxy S10 5G in Poland and an inconspicuous Galaxy S10e.

To say that Samsung has been getting used to bigger screens over the years, it's nothing to say. Koreans literally created the category of a large smartphone thanks to the Note series. Over the last decade, even people with average knowledge of technology have noticed that Samsung is able to make "the best" smartphones - the biggest, the strongest, the most packed with additional functions, and finally the most expensive (excluding only the iPhone).

This race for better and better numbers began to be somewhat tiring, especially on a daily basis. Have you ever tried to take it out of your Samsung Galaxy Note 9 pants pocket while sitting in the car? If so, you know what I mean.

Against this background Galaxy S10e is a unique device, because it is really handy. At the same time, it is not "the most", at least not in every respect.

Looking at the specification, one can come to the conclusion that S10e is such an "inferior S10". Nothing could be more wrong.

The list of missing Samsung Galaxy S10e for larger brothers is significant:

  • Galaxy S10e has a smaller screen,
  • The Galaxy S10e has a lower resolution,
  • Galaxy S10e has less RAM in the base version,
  • Galaxy S10e has a camera without one lens,
  • Galaxy S10e has no curved edges of the screen,
  • Galaxy S10e does not have a fingerprint scanner in the screen,
  • Galaxy S10e has a much smaller battery.

There is also one advantage: the Galaxy S10e is clearly cheaper than the bigger brothers. Although it is by no means cheap.

It all sounds bad, right? On paper, in fact, this smartphone does not look amazing, but after two weeks of using it I know one thing.

If I were to buy a new Samsung smartphone, I would probably choose Galaxy S10e.

The two-week Samsung Galaxy S10e test was a very refreshing experience. In the end, a smartphone was created which is not caricaturally great, and at the same time is a flagship in the full sense of the word.

Yes, Galaxy S10e does not have any complexes on the background of larger brothers. Although the list of paper shortages may discourage, in reality it turns out to be completely irrelevant:

  • the smaller screen is not small at all, because it is 5.8 inches,
  • we can not see the lower resolution, because we have a pixel density of 435 ppi here, and 2280x1080 pixels is quite a sufficient value,
  • 6 GB of RAM is up to 2 GB less than in the larger S10, but this difference simply does not feel every day,
  • the camera does not have a telephoto lens, but has an ultra wide angle, which in my opinion is much more useful on a smartphone,
  • the lack of curved edges turns out to be not a disadvantage, but an advantage,
  • just like the fingerprint reader in the button, making it faster and more reliable,
  • a smaller battery is a fact and it is a real, but actually the only problem Samsung Galaxy S10e.

Finally, I can reach the upper beam without a thumbs up. In addition, the new One UI system overlay makes it rarer to reach the top edge, although it is still necessary in many applications.

In addition, the Samsung Galaxy S10e is simply a very nice smartphone. A flat screen does not deprive him of charm, or maybe even the opposite. Narrow frames have identical thickness on the sides and at the top, which gives the device a great look. It is a pity that the bottom frame is a bit thicker, which is quite a big misunderstanding in this class of smartphones, the more so because for the last two generations Samsung has accustomed us to symmetry. And how does the hole in the screen work? After two days I stopped noticing him.

And the quality of the screen itself? It is simply unearthly. The Dynamic AMOLED panel makes a huge impression, especially if you set the "live" color display mode. The maximum brightness is at a very high level, so there will be no problems with summer service in full sun. Communing with this screen is pure pleasure.

The great advantage of the Galaxy S10e are the side frames. Thanks to the flat design of the screen, the aluminum frame is wider, and this makes the Samsung Galaxy S10e can be lifted off the table much easier than larger eels . The smartphone is also much more secure in the hand, especially since it is small.

The fingerprint reader works better than the S10 Plus, but is still not ideal.

The fingerprint reader in the Samsung Galaxy S10e fits in a side power button, which would be a very comfortable and ergonomic position if it were not for the fact that the reader is placed a bit too high. Fortunately, it is well perceptible. You can get used to it, but it would be more convenient to have it lower. However, the speed of action is great. Just literally brush your finger on the surface of the reader to unlock the device.

The reader also supports the gesture of moving your finger down, which results in downloading the notification bar. This function in practice works quite poorly, because we often make a gesture by accident, wanting to unlock or block the device. In practice, the same gesture performs better, only that performed on the surface of the screen.

On the second throne of the smartphone we will find the physical button of the assistant Bixby. The assistant himself still does not speak Polish and is only a poor relative of the Google Assistant, so it is best to remap the button. In the settings you will find this function. We can force Bixby to run by double pressing the button, and we can assign any application to a single press.

Action? It's a rocket, not a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S10e is equipped with the Exynos 9820 processor, which is equivalent to the latest Snapdragon 855. This is the same layout that we find in larger Galaxy S10. In practice, it works sensational and it is impossible to complain about the performance or quality of the smartphone. This device will surely serve several years.

In addition, the new One UI system overlay is well designed and I think it is the best overlay on Android. System applications are designed to support your thumb, and there are many options for personalizing your smartphone.

For example, you can enable gesture support instead of screen buttons, although this is quite a non-standard solution, because all gestures are done by moving your finger up. The offset in the center of the screen is the equivalent of the home button, and moving up at the edge is a return or multitasking view (you can configure which function is to be on the left and which on the right). The screen can display narrow bars symbolizing three buttons, but we can also hide them completely.

The camera is a class in itself.

Samsung Galaxy S10e has two lenses: standard and ultra-wide angle. In practice, such a system works even better than a combination of a basic angle of view and a telephoto lens. Ultra wide angle has a field of view with a range of 123 degrees, which really makes an impression. The side effect is quite a large barrel distortion at the edges, so be careful when taking pictures of architecture. The wide-angle module is 16 megapixels, brightness f / 2.2, focal length 12 mm and pixel size of 1 micrometer.

The most important thing, however, is that the ultra wide angle lens usually does not stand out by the quality of the main module. In other smartphones it is often the case that the widest lens looks like equipment from a completely different story. Not this time. In S10e, the whole is well balanced.

In turn, the main camera is the crème de la crème of mobile photography, which will provide great quality pictures even in automatic mode and in the hands of a complete amateur. The module has 12 megapixels, adjustable aperture f / 1.5 - f / 2.4, focal length 26 mm and pixel size 1.4 micrometres.

The only major disadvantage is the working time on one charge.

This is the only serious problem for the Samsung Galaxy S10e. Four hours - and often even less - work on the screen is not enough. When using the smartphone, you will definitely need to charge it during the day. In turn, on a lazy Saturday, when I rarely used smarton, before midnight I had only a few percent of the level of charge.

Fortunately, the smartphone supports fast charging, including wireless charging. With longer exits in the city you need to get into the habit of picking up the charger or powerbank.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e also has a wireless reverse charge function, but due to the low battery this is impractical. Well, unless we connect the smartphone with a charging cable for the night, and at the same time we will wirelessly charge the watch, for example.

To sum up: if the Galaxy S10 is in the "e" version.

I did not think I would like the Galaxy S10e so much. When I tested the "e" and "+" versions simultaneously for a week, after two days I switched the SIM card to a smaller variant. Yes, the plus version is "the most" in every respect, but it is quite predictable at the same time. In turn, Galaxy S10e is something new, very refreshing and extremely practical.

Finally, I leave the question of price. Samsung Galaxy S10e currently costs approx. PLN 3,100. That's a lot, but at the same time by PLN 600 less than the base version of S10 and by as much as PLN 1,100 cheaper than the base S10 +. Is the surcharge for larger versions justified? In my opinion, no. Samsung Galaxy S10e is after all the best screen, top camera, huge power reserve and great ergonomics. A bad battery is a small drawback with all these advantages.
