Corporations do not want to sell electricity to new customers. They are afraid that the government will not give them money
That's how tinkering with electricity prices ends. The government wanted to mitigate the effects of drastic increases and announced that it would put billions of zlotys into the pockets of energy concerns, so that they would not pass the costs on to customers. On the way, however, the European Commission was involved in these plans, and ... we know so much that we know nothing.
The intent was simple. At the end of last year, the law on subsidizing electricity prices was passed. This was to remain on the level of June 30, 2018. Otherwise, bills would go up by several dozen percent (another thing is that suppliers to comply with the rules have until the end of March and not everyone has adjusted their price lists to this).
At that moment, not only individual recipients, but also enterprises and local governments breathed a sigh of relief. Councilors, mayors or presidents have already warned that what poorer municipalities will have to look for savings, for example by temporarily switching off streetlights. The cost of this intervention was calculated at PLN 9 billion.
However, regulations were also needed for the Act. And these have not seen the light of day yet. The reason is the reservations from the European Commission . According to Eurocrates, freezing prices is contrary to EU energy market rules. Negotiations have started, and the matter of subsidies has stalled.
The representatives of energy companies clearly do not believe in a successful resolution of this conflict. "Puls Biznesu" reports that companies are reluctant to actively seek new clients. On the censored are primarily the most power-hungry recipients like steel mills, mines or factories. The logic that is guided by the supplier is understandable. - Why should we provide energy at a cost, if we do not know yet, will the government be able to compensate us for these losses? - they are wondering in companies producing electricity.
Where does the rise in electricity prices come from?
The big hikes that were to wait for us this year are in fact answered by several factors . One of them is too much dependence on coal, from which combustion comes about 80 percent. electric energy. And that the prices of "black gold" go up, then also electricity bills.
In addition, more expensive carbon dioxide emission rights are a major problem (over the year from 6 to 25 euros). Poland is also indirectly hit by the energy deficit in the Scandinavian countries, from where we import part of the electricity.
