All operators in Poland will create one 5G network - this is the dream of Plus s boss

Plus is dreaming of one shared 5G network shared by all Polish operators. The Cyfrowy Polsat Group also wants to be "cold" about the Huawei company.

Polish mobile operators are still working on improving coverage and increasing LTE bandwidth to meet the growing demand for data transfer from customers. Population coverage is constantly improving. The bandwidth aggregation technology, on the other hand, increases the bandwidth in selected locations, thanks to which the transfer rates are higher and higher.

However, it is impossible to hide that the LTE network is already common in our country. Access to it is not limited to residents of large urban centers. The next step will be the transition to 5G, which telecommunications companies are already trying to do. However, it requires huge investments, and the problem may be the participation of the Huawei brand in them.

This Chinese company has been around for some time due to insinuations about its connections with the government of the Middle Kingdom, on censorship - not only in the United States , the Czech Republic or Australia, but also in Poland. The issue of the development of the 5G network and the presence of the Huawei brand in Poland was raised in a conversation with Rzeczpospolita by the founder of Cyfrowy Polsat, Zygmunt Solorz.

Plus wants one 5G network to be created in Poland

At the moment, Plus puts its base stations, Play yours, and although Orange and T-Mobile have entered into a partnership within Networks, their networks have been developed separately since the beginning, and at the end of last year their cooperation relaxed. Zygmunt Solorz, the founder of Cyfrowy Polsat, expressed the hope that in the case of 5G network, all operators will cooperate with each other.

By the way, there is some simplification here - using four operators on one network will not require four times less base stations, because this network will support many more customers - but this approach would have many advantages. This would reduce the cost - the investment amount in the 5G network in Europe is estimated at 37 billion - and accelerated the implementation.

Will the other operators in Poland know this interest? We will see. Despite the excellent results, the Cyfrowy Polsat Group can not compete with international corporations in terms of scale - such are Deutsche Telekom and Orange, which is the mother company of T-Mobile Polska and Orange Polska, respectively. Zygmunt Solorz also points to their foreign pedigree, mentioning that the construction of the 5G network is an important issue for our country.

Just what to do with Huawei in the room?

The Chinese giant is associated with consumers thanks to smartphones, which have been a sensation in our country for several years. Huawei is on the right track to take over the leader's baton in Poland for good, and has already globally pierced Apple. Telephones are only one of the company's activities. The second, more important, is the production of telecommunications infrastructure.

Huawei is on censored, but Zygmunt Solorz, commenting on this issue, confines itself to vague statements that "there is some competition at the global level". However, he recommends that despite the detention of a Huawei employee in Poland on suspicion of espionage , approach this business as if to everyone else: "prudently and with a cool head."

Zygmunt Solorz also points out that banning the use of Huawei's products in Poland would not be the end of the world - it is just one of the equipment suppliers - but he argues that "a strategic and rational approach is needed". So it looks like so far we have to wait for the development of events, and the future of the 5G network in Poland at this moment is uncertain.

What next with Plus and the Cyfrowy Polsat Group?

Zygmunt Solorz plans to develop high-speed broadband Internet. At the moment, this is accomplished by offering customers access to the network through Netia, but if it wants to "implement the next step - providing high-speed internet to any home or flat in Poland" - will need substantial investment, and perhaps a takeover of another company.

The Cyfrowy Polsat Group intends to strengthen its position on the content market to deliver them together with the Internet - either fixed-line or mobile. It is a pity that Zygmunt Solorz does not see the need to acquire the right to the application, and also the entire Showmax platform. This in terms of quality, from the user's perspective, has been ahead of Ipla's service for light years .

The good news is that the Cyfrowy Polsat Group does not rule out the takeover of only movies and TV series from Showmax. Zygmunt Solorz denies, however, that his company should take over Radio Zet. Due to the "price conditions reported in the media", he considered that this investment would be unprofitable from the point of view of his company.
