Intel continues to focus on the CS: GO female scene in Katowice. The rate is high, but still too low

During the IEM in Katowice the best female teams in CS: GO will compete with each other. 8 teams consisting of only girls will fight each other from February 28 to March 2. There are 200,000 in the prize pool zł.

Intel Challenge, a competition created for women's teams, has been held since 2015. The idea behind separating a separate scene for women is simple. Thanks to this type of tournaments, girls glued to computer screens or wandering after the fair are to have the opportunity to see that women can also professionally do e-sport.

Intel Challenge is a tournament thanks to which we have the opportunity to show the struggles of the best eSports players in the world, played on one of the largest eSports scenes. They are a role model for aspiring female players, and their competition always arouses many emotions - says Morgan Romine, PhD, director of initiatives at AnyKey.

It's hard not to notice that women in international tournaments are scarce, if they appear at all. Professional players are perceived as a curiosity rather than a normal element of a professional landscape.

Let's talk about the great gray trumpeter, which appears far too often when we talk about women's versions of popular professions - about money. Although the organizer boasts about the amount of the prize pool, it is impossible not to think about it as a consolation prize. In the same tournament, men will fight for $ 1 million. And no, the dollar has not fallen far enough that the gap between these sums would not scare you.

We know what these differences result from. Women's e-sports competitions do not attract as many viewers as men. Therefore, they do not attract so many sponsors, which means that they do not pay so much money for them. I know it and understand it. It does not change the fact that every time I hear about the amount of awards in women's competitions or side stages they play on, I feel like I've figured out a bitter pill of reality.

At this stage, separate women's e-sports tournaments can make more sense than I would like. Women tamed with the stage and the tournament atmosphere may have a better chance of breaking into the "normal" team. The only question is whether someone will accept it there. And it's not just about skill. The problem with women in e-sport goes a bit beyond the evolutionary proof of faster eye-hand coordination and co-ordination, and it consists of a mosaic of social, psychological and business aspects.

The champions from last year will again be fighting.

It is known that the ladies from Team Dignitas will definitely appear at the tournament. The rest of the teams have not yet been selected. The Intel Challenger qualifiers will take place in Europe, Asia, North and South America at the end of January. The best will be represented by the Old Continent, from which 4 teams will come to Katowice. The rest of the continents will send one.
